King's-Blood Tulip

Posted on: 31/10/24
The King's-blood tulip is a rare species of the genus Tulipa commonly planted in ornamental gardens. The specific origin of the flower is debated, but it's popularity rose in large part due to the Kkhanoese regime favoring it. Its name originates from a mythological story, similar to the Messianic poppy of Astana-Anders (which I discussed heavily in a previous article here). It is said that the King's-blood tulip was formed when the blood of a divine king spilt upon a field of flowers.

The Bellflower is a unique species of flower. Known for its soft blue petals, the downturned member of the Campanula genus is a hardy species fit for any garden. The flower also holds a religious significance, as it has become symbolic for the Messiah's tears in the rites of Orthodox Christianity.

Still the question must be asked, how did such a species come about? While a member of the Campanula, the flower is more genetically similar to members of the Liliaceae family. Even then, this genetic link is weak at best, and this has led some researchers to propose that the Bellflower is not a true flower at all. Regardless of this theory, the Bellflower is a great addition for any new gardeners, and is great at attracting pollinators! Something I discussed in more detail here.
