Welcome to the:
Sphagnum Grotto

About this page

Welcome to KJnet's number one resource about moss! My name is Xu Chen, and I am an aspiring naturalist and the world's biggest moss fan! I also like Kiara Miki but that's a lot less unique these days. I decided to open this blog in 2022 to catalogue mosses from around the globe and general moss care tips for aspiring farmers like myself. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my work or need help identifying a moss in the wild!

This blog is designed and maintained entirely on my own, but I would like to thank Dr. Inokura at Katae University for providing funding to my research. You can find more about our research by visiting his website here or our Science Database profiles here.

About moss

Don't know about moss? Welcome to the right place! Moss is a specific division of terrestrial plants that play an important and often overlooked role in many ecosystems! Mosses lack roots and typically grow on rocks or the soil surface in colony-like clusters of tiny individuals. You can find out more about moss in general by doing a deep dive on Lexipedia here!

There's over 12,000 unique species of moss growing all around the world, and many have unique uses for both ecosystems and humans! You can learn more about some of my favorite species here.
