The Day of Awakening is an fictionalized account of the 1981 Etsuyoki Bombing where Kim Hee-ryong re-contextualizes the tragedy with an alien attack on the Kjanuan Government. Deeply controversial upon its release, many accused the book of being disrespectful to the victims of the tragedy. In response, Kim included a revised authors note clarifying his sympathy for those who died in the blast.
